Musculoskeletal First Contact Practitioners

What is FCP?

Our First Contact Physiotherapists (FCP) are based directly in the G.P surgeries and are highly skilled regulated practitioners.

They are trained to see patients 16 years or over with any musculoskeletal conditions that may be undiagnosed and undifferentiated.

Patients presenting to their G.P surgery with any musculoskeletal condition (joints bones and muscles) can see an FCP as their first point of contact and do not need to see a GP first.

This ensures patients have fast access to a specialised musculoskeletal assessment, diagnosis and (if appropriate) investigations and onward referrals.

What do expect during your FCP appointment?

Your FCP will take a history of your condition and ask some questions to gain a better understanding of your symptoms, your general health and help rule other concerning pathologies. They will then assess the joint(s) causing problems.

The FCP will explain their findings and likely diagnosis and work with you to form a treatment plan, usually incorporating advice on self management, exercise prescription and patient education, but may involve ordering of imaging, bloods, prescriptions or onwards referral.

The FCP service is not a physiotherapy treatment service however if your FCP feels you need ongoing physiotherapy treatment, they will refer you to the local physiotherapy service or provide you with the details needed to access this.

appropriate) investigations and onward referrals.

Hi there! I'm Ryan, a physiotherapist who qualified in 2005 in the sunny Philippines. I've had the privilege of helping people feel their best in various private clinics and NHS hospitals. My specialty is Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. When I'm not at work, I love hanging out with my young family, hitting the road for a good run, and doing some strength training. Looking forward to meeting you and helping you on your journey to wellness!
